A top class card, good money and the races beamed into Beating Shops heralds what might be a new era for our sport. In a week when a lot happened, the momentum keeps gathering speed. The BHRC is working with our Irish friends, hopefully we will all have a golden future and the gauntlet is thrown down, the irish come over here.... they are inviting us over there. Good horses travel well... so lets see our stars on Irish soil!! 21-Jul-2008 YORK DELIVERS DESPITE DELUGE...It's official... Mick Welling walks on water. After a sunny start to racing on Saturday 19th July a storm of Biblical proportions blew up. A lesser track, under lesser management would have closed. York copes with the wet, Mick Welling's new track management program kept racing going, the track fast and the fans happy. The York Two Year Old Championships was a charge to the wire by a bunch of top class youngsters with LifeSign daughter Blackwell Minogue driven by 'The Iceman' Ian Pimlott prevailing by the narrowest of margins over Rhyds Shark, Camden Lover and Frisco Cracker. In the Crock of Gold Heat, Call The Chauffeur made every post a winning one and saw off the challenges of the cream of British racing to score in 1.59.3 on a wet track. The toughest horse racing Lucky Touch was a close second with the 'Old Warhorse' himself Scoot Around third. CTC likes York and keeps taking money home to North Wales!
'Southern Gentleman' John Ripley made it clear to son Joe that he was walking back to Kent if he didn't win and he duly obeyed Dad to score with the exciting Stud Muffin colt Wellfield Dream. A hard man Mr Ripley!
All in all a great day despite the weather! 18-Jul-2008 BIG WEEK IN HARNESS RACING....NEVER HAVE SO MANY OWED SO MUCH TO SO FEW.
Following the success of Hereford on Sunday 13 July a bunch of die hard supporters travelled to Kempton Park on 15th July and staged a pacing race complete with TV coverage, Betfair gambling and bookmakers shops laying bets. The crowd loved it the gambling marketwas buoyant and everyone is talking about Harness Racing. The Racing Post covered the event. The tireless work of Lord Lipsey has secured consideration of our sport by the horse race betting levy board. Lord Lipsey and Gordon Garnett are hoping to meet with HBLB within the next week and Irish TV and bookmakers are believed to want a piece of the action when there is a Harness Racing meeting at Dundalk in August.Stella Havard and Jackie Maguire have played major parts in the Kempton success as have the Drivers, Wesley Jones, Martin Roberts, Ivor Stokle, Alan Westwood, Bret & Jed Strickland and Lord lipsey. Owners Nick Powell, Maureen Westwood, Michelle Strickland and Stella did their bit as well. We all owe them a greatdeal and our thanks are conveyed.
Are we on the verge of a breakthrough..... I hope so.
