Kit Bousfield

Kit Bousfield

Kit has been involved in Harness Racing for all his life, going back to the 1930’s with both breeding and racing.

He is concerned with both the Appleby Spring and Fair Trot meetings, which for the most part of history have been staged at his farm. He is head of the family that oversees the running of one of the oldest and greatest fixtures in the history of the sport in the UK.

When Noel Simpson visited Appleby in the 1960’s he was inspired to build a hard track at Prestatyn, which later led to the forming of the BHRC. Noel was supported at every turn by Kit, standing in transit stallions which improved the breed plus he raced at Prestatyn, which few Eden Valley supporters did. He also bought New Zealand mares in to improve the breed and some of the progeny produced were exported.

It is only fitting that Kit should be bestowed this recognition as he really has contributed a lifetime to trotting.
