CORBIEWOOD TWO DAY FESTIVAL OF HARNESS RACING
Forget Battle of the Big Guns – this Friday & Saturday could see the Battle of Bannockburn all over again when the Scottish horses take on the English raiders to compete for the £1000 first prize up each day for the Final winners. (Obviously without the bloodshed but a lot of pride is still at stake). On Friday night we have the heats & final of the Matt Turner Memorial Trophy kindly sponsored by The Turner Family & Friends. Matt sadly passed away just over a year ago, he was a part of Corbie’s fixtures & fittings always there jogging away at his horses til the very end and keeping everyone right in his own way. We also see some of the C Class drivers out taking part in the 2 races we have on especially for them, winning one of these against their fellow compadres means everything! On Saturday we thank The Thomson Family for sponsoring the Alex Thomson Sr Rosebowl, it has been a few years since this was last raced for and the Rosebowl is a worthy trophy for anyone to win. Also on Saturday, we have a saddle race for the ‘jockeys’ to strut their stuff and yet again the winner of this race has bragging rights until the next one. We also have a Mares Open Preferred Handicap which sees 6 future broodmares battle it out, infact one has already had a stint at being a broodmare and has made a very successful return to harness racing. We also see the maiden & novice horses in 4 races over the 2 days. There are bookmakers, cafe & a bar. And if you fancy staying after racing there is entertainment in the bar after racing both days. First race on Friday is at 7pm, half an hour earlier than usual, so please pass on the message & let people know. The first race is at 2pm on Saturday. Admission £10, under 16′s free. Hope to see you all there.
