EQUINE INFLUENZA

7Feb

The BHA has announced today that all racing on Thursday 7 February 2019 has been cancelled due to the BHA being informed by the Animal Health Trust of three confirmed Equine Influenza positives from vaccinated horses in an active racing yard.

Since the start of 2019, a number of equine influenza cases have been identified across Europe and the UK (in Essex, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Suffolk), including several in vaccinated horses.

All Owners and Trainers are advised to be extra-vigilant. Extra care should be taken with biosecurity, where possible transportation of horses should be avoided and it is advised that new horses entering yards are isolated.
Any horses showing signs that could be flu (especially harsh dry cough) should be isolated and promptly investigated by your vet.
