HANDICAP RULES & REGULATIONS – Imported Horses

18Aug

Horses imported from abroad with any Handicap Earnings, will be handicapped on wins and on earnings. Any horse with less than two lifetime wins will be handicapped as Maiden if no wins and Novice if one win, however the horses will carry the equivalent of their earnings. As per the current Handicap Rules if the horse is imported from America, Canada or Australasia all earnings will be included in working out a handicap mark. The horses total earnings will be converted to £ sterling. If the horse is imported from mainland Europe (generally speaking Trotters) all earnings will be included in working out a handicap mark. The horses total earnings will be converted to £ sterling, then divided by 5.
Therefore horses imported with zero or one lifetime win will race as a Maiden or Novice respetively. Upon winning their Novice race the conversion of earnings from abroad will determine the horses place with the handicap grades.
