TIR PRINCE REPORT JULY 14TH

by Mandy Stanley

Tir Prince Raceway held it’s 1st race Meeting of the 2020 season on Tuesday 14th July, with 8 Top Quality 2yo,3yo and 4yo NWHOA Stakes Races.

The 1st Stakes races of the season did not disappoint with some superb performances.

William Laidler drove a treble, starting with the USA bred 2yo filly  Said to be Sweet who won in nice style on her debut race, in the  next race for 2yo colts he won on another USA bred  Yerkes Hanover who clocked a very impressive time of 2.00.5 a New Track Record for 2yo colts he certainly looks a future star, and to make it the hat trick  Rocker drove the 3yo filly Tripple S for the delighted owner Mr Cattigan who made the trip down from  Scotland and she looks like she will be visiting the winners circle again soon.

Ayr Contessa won div 2 of the 2yo fillies comfortably giving James Haythornthwaite a good win on the afternoon.

Div 2 of the 3yo fillies was won by the royally bred Rainbow Writer who made the trip over from Ireland, she won in impressive style stopping the clock in 1.59.7 her connections B. Grendon and P. Kane snr and Patrick Kane jnr were over the moon with her performance.

The 3yo colts & Gelding Championship was won by the Scottish owned Whichguyami in a thrilling finish in a good clock of 2.00.4  giving Vicky Gill her 1st winner of the afternoon only to be followed up in the next race for 4yo fillies where we watched the BHRC 3yo filly and horse of the year 2019 champion Newtown Jody win in impressive style in a fast time of 1.58.2 showing her class.  Thus giving Vicky Gill a nice driving double on the afternoon.

The 4yo colts & Geldings Championship was a tactical affair that ended with one of the closest finishes of the day Steve Lees dictated from the front on Ladyford Dollar to win from the 3yo 2019 BHRC champion Northern Pride who ran a gallant race in second and the fast finishing Takemetothelimit up the inside in third.  Giving Steve Lee’s 100% strike rate on the day. 1 drive, 1 win.

Plenty to look forward to in the future stakes racing programme for 2020.

Congratulations to all winners and their connections.
