  • EQUINE INFLUENZA

    7Feb

    The BHA has announced today that all racing on Thursday 7 February 2019 has been cancelled due to the BHA being informed by the Animal Health Trust of three confirmed Equine Influenza positives from vaccinated horses in an active racing yard.

    Since the start of 2019, a number of equine influenza cases have been identified across Europe and the UK (in Essex, Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Suffolk), including several in vaccinated horses.

    Following on from the successful Breeders Premiums, STAGBI are introducing a new Owners Premium in 2019 with the aim of supporting the owners of British Bred Horses.

    The current Breeders Premium in Situ are awarded to horses that win the most races or high profile races, so to ensure that as many people benefit from the STAGBI Awards Premium scheme, it will now also support owners of British Bred horses at the grassroots of the industry.

    The BHRC would like to bring the following to the attention of anyone who intends to race under the BHRC Rules and Regulations during the 2019 season:-

    S35. Road Racing in any form is absolutely forbidden, and it is illegal for any licence holder to participate in such racing. Any licence holder participating in Road Racing in any capacity shall be subject to a mandatory fine of not less than £3,000 and warning off for a period of not less than three years.

    Appendix I - Public Trainer and Licence to Train

    Due to the difference between a hobby and a professional, the rates have been increased:

    Licence to Train increase from £33 to £50

    Public Trainer increase from £66 to £100

    Every holder of a Licence to Train or Public Trainer from 1st January 2019 will be required to submit £10 per horse registered under their care for training.

  • STAGBI FUTURE BROODMARES RACES 2019

    In 2019, STAGBI have introduced the Heat & Final format for the STAGBI Future Broodmares races.

    Amman Valley, York, Tir Prince, Corbiewood and Wolverhampton are the eligible tracks for the series.

    Heats - Each track can have up to two races with added money of £750 from STAGBI (minimum first prize £500). There will be an invitational final at the end of the year.

    I feel obliged to offer a personal apology to all licence holders and members. When I was elected in 2014 I made a promise to see change to the BHRC Constitution and bring in a one man one vote system - a promise I have not fulfilled, in fact an area where I have dramatically failed, hence an apology.

  • YORK HARNESS RACEWAY 2019

    York harness racing returns to action in 2019 by popular demand.

    We will start off as normal on May Bank Holiday Monday and plan to run heats and final.

    One of our highlight meetings will be the PACT charity meeting on the 20th July.

    We have a few really good sponsors for this event and welcome for the first time to York prep races for the Vincent Delaney Memorial, so sure to be a great meeting and we hope to have a really big crowd as ALL entrance money for the fixture goes to charity.

    The three year tender awarded to Tir Prince for the Futurity, Derby and Pacing Classic races was up for renewal at the end of 2018.
